The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. At every Mass, through the words of consecration, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
The Eucharist is not simply a symbol or reminder of Jesus. Catholics believe that Jesus is truly present, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, in the Blessed Sacrament.
When we receive Holy Communion worthily, we receive Christ Himself. The Eucharist draws us more deeply into communion with Jesus, strengthens us to live as His disciples, and unites us with the Church.
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever.” John 6:51
Preparing to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time is an important step in a child's life of faith and a special time of faith formation for the whole family.
Our parish communities of St. Jude the Apostle and St. Michael the Archangel prepare children and their families for both First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion through our Sacramental Preparation program.
Preparation helps children grow in their understanding of God's love and mercy, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Mass, and the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Parents and families have an especially important role in this journey as the first teachers of their children in the faith.
Families seeking First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion preparation, or those who have questions about their child's sacramental preparation, are encouraged to contact JoAnn Taylor, Faith Formation Coordinator.
