Many ministries at our Parish of St Michael the Archangel engage in Christian Service projects, the Women’s Guild, Men’s Club, and Faith Formation all support Christian service projects to support our neighbors in need. The Social Justice ministry is specifically dedicated to Christian Service works and advocacy to improve the lives of the poor.
Social Justice Ministry – Guided by the Seven Principles of Catholic Social Justice, the members of this ministry involve the entire parish in practicing acts of Social Justice, particularly Christian Service. This ministry sponsors many projects and collection drives to support local agencies that serve the poor, including several Catholic Charities agencies (CoNSERNS-U, Roarke Center and Community Maternity Services), Circles of Mercy, the Griswold Heights Community, St. Paul’s Center, the Stratton VA Hospital, Troy Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing and the Rensselaer County Jail.

A subset of Social Justice, the Respect Life activities focus on Catholic teachings regarding the sanctity and dignity of life, evident in our many parish works of Christian Service to support, sustain and value life at all stages; conception to natural death. The Respect Life Coordinator shares relevant news and information in the public domain regarding abortion, physician assisted suicide, commercial surrogacy, capital punishment, racism and unequal income/wealth distribution that contributes to unacceptable poverty.
